Bellflower Automotive Power Seat Repair
Power Seat Repair – When you’re cruising down Alondra Blvd. in you vehicle, you want to look good and be comfortable – and in today’s high tech vehicles that comfort comes in the shape of a luxury power seat. Today’s vehicles are equipped with elaborate power seats that do a lot more than keeping your feet on the peddles. They automatically move in a many directions satisfying drivers every ergonomics need, including a seat warmer. So lets take a look at some of the mechanics of those fancy seats. When you press the power seat controls the power seat triggers motors which then moves your seat forward, backwards, adjusts lumbar support and heated seats just to name a few of the many comfort options. Including allowing you to find the optimal placement of your seat, so that the peddles are the right where you need them.
Now for the bad news. With all those electronic options, power seats and their controls have a greater chance of failing than the older manual controlled seats. When that power seat switch fails, the seats can’t move, and you won’t be able to control the placement of your seat. While this may not be a serious problem – you may not be able to see well or operate your vehicle if you can’t reach the peddles rendering your vehicle undrivable. Power seat switches are usually located on the seat or door panel. Those switches send power to the seat motors, allowing you to move your seat in several directions. If the switch malfunctions, then the seat may no longer move, or its movement may be limited. Also, it’s common for debris to get stuck in the tracks, preventing the seat from moving. However, if cleaning the debris doesn’t resolve the problem, your seat or switches may need to be repaired or replaced. If the switches are working and there is no debris, but your seat still does not move, you may have a malfunctioning power seat motor or a short in one of the wires going to the switch or motor. Something that only an ASE certified technician can handle, just like the technicians employed at Orozco’s Auto Service of Fullerton!
The majority of the time to repair power seats, they must first be removed, then the motors, and then the switches and wiring need to be inspected. Once the source of the problem is found, it must be repaired or replaced, then everything must be reassembled & thoroughly tested.
